Education is the main purpose of college. Finding the right fit where your educational interests can flourish is paramount. Remember of eligible women’s college basketball players only .9% are drafted to WNBA and 4% for international pro teams. It is very important to prepare for a post college life.
The Sky Academy College Counselors will discuss with you the following action steps throughout your high school academic career.
- Make sure you are taking the right classes. NCAA schools require a foundation of high school classes to prepare the student for the college classroom. Visit eligibilitycenter.org for a full list of required core courses.
- Keep your grades strong. There is a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.3 in the NCAA core courses to be eligible for college recruitment. Additionally, most colleges will have a higher GPA target that makes you an attractive candidate for that institution.
- Determine the type of college you are seeking. There are many different characteristics that differentiate the various colleges and universities. The Flow College Counseling process includes a College Characteristics Questionnaire which helps the student athlete think about preferences of size, community setting, courses of study, geography, campus, culture, etc.
- Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center at eligibilitycenter.org. This is a NCAA requirement and suggest you register during your sophomore year.
- Plan for ACT/SAT testing. Most colleges (but not all) require standardized testing. You may take the tests as many times as you wish before enrolling in college. We recommend the first test taking during the junior year.
